The 33rd Ordinary Council Meeting of the Tigray Teachers Association was held on April 14, 2024 During the meeting, the council discussed issues such as teachers’ rights and benefits, 17 months salary arrears, women teachers in the association and leadership of the association. The council presented the 2023-2024 fiscal year performance, internal and external audit report and discussed selected agenda items on teachers rights and benefits, housing issue, membership fees of MAMET 2024-2025 election Association issues were discussed. Accordingly, the association has been improving in its struggle to respect the rights of its teachers from time to time. The union has made repeated efforts with the concerned authorities regarding the 17 months salary arrears.
- It is obvious that the financial situation of our association is deteriorating. This is also a weakness of our teacher’s attitude that he is not understood in the association. Therefore, we will work hard to understand the basic purpose of the association Let’s get inside.
- We strongly urge you to continue to intensify your demands while doing your duty until the teachers get a proper answer to their fair demands.
- While everyone should know and understand that the teachers’ demand regarding salary arrears is proper and legal, the answers to this proper and legitimate demand of teachers are not appropriate for the profession and teachers. Answering this question of teachers and giving reasonable answers based on honesty can not only give respect to our staff and profession but also have its own role in the quality of education.
- The Pretoria Agreement is a struggle for peace and improvement of the lives of teachers. The Tigray Interim Government should work seriously with the federal government and the international community to return the displaced teachers . The meeting concluded with an 11-point constitutional statement.
